Now, usually I am not one who can decide what design to put on my automobile. But, when I saw Sparkleberry Ink release this Laura'southward Abalone design, I merely knew what I wanted to do with it.

Note: you volition demand a slice of Sparkleberry Ink vinyl or other make that is at least 12″ ten 24″ long.

I created this Cameo 4 encompass all by using a record measure, the cartoon tools in the Silhouette software, and cutting test cuts of the templates to make sure they would fit earlier cut my precious Sparkleberry Ink vinyl.

So how did I do it?

I started out past measuring each space that I wanted to add together a piece of vinyl to and writing that downward.

Then I chose the draw rectangle tool in the software and created a rounded rectangle (6.285″ x ii.420) for the top left console (Due east).

Drawing rounded rectangle copy

Adjacent, I drew a rectangle (half-dozen.285″ x two.687″). I used the Align tools to centre the rectangles together and then moved them together until the full width of the console was 2.682″. And so I selected both the rounded and regular rectangle and made a copy, this style I accept an original shape to become dorsum to. And I'm and so glad I did because I had to cutting this one a couple of times to get the right rounded rectangle angles.

Next, I correct clicked and chose Weld.

Then I cut it from cardstock to see how well it fit. Here are a few of the pieces I test cut to meet how they would work for the panels.

Then I continued to measure each and draw the shapes co-ordinate to those measurements.

By cutting it out of cardstock, I could place the cardstock upward to the space available and run across how it fit. If it was too big, I could scale it downwardly. If it was as well pocket-size, I could scale it up a little bit.

I added all my pieces of my design to a "working file" that I saved, just in case something happened.

Working file copy

One time I knew the slice would fit, I then moved it to my original cut file and positioned it on the mat, so I could get the most out of the 12″ x 24″ cutting space.

Then I did something daring. I wanted mine to have sparkle to it. Then I took a 12″ x 24″ piece of Glitter Laminate Overlay and I applied information technology to the elevation of the Sparkleberry Ink – Laura'southward Abalone adhesive vinyl.

Why is this daring? Well, anytime you add a layer on peak of another layer, y'all have the chance of getting bubbles. Only, I went for it!

I followed these instructions HERE for using the Glitter Laminate Overlay and it worked! Would I recommend this for all users – No, probably non. I would definitely recommend practicing with a smaller piece first. But, sometimes y'all just accept to become for it 😉 !

Look at it sparkle!

This is definitely one of those times that you experience all giddy when a project is meeting. If yous await really close on the right side in the photo in a higher place, you may fifty-fifty come across a few bubbles. I'm good with that.

After all the pieces were cutting, I cut them apart, added transfer tape and started applying ane panel at a time. I of course started with the largest panel showtime, the cover.
Well, at this bespeak – might besides go big.

Since this Laura'south Abalone pattern was directional, I realized later on I cut the first one, I had turned a couple of the panels to fit on the mat and that afflicted the way the pattern was. Then I concluded upwards re-cutting a few pieces so the unabridged pattern matched.
(I corrected that in the final cutting file – see below)

I was happy with it as it shows above, still, my kids came to audit it and my 10 yr sometime said, "Mom, what about the top? Aren't you going to practice the pinnacle pieces, so when the lid is open, information technology all flows."

Very good point!

And the terminal pieces were created.

At present, is it perfect? Nope, it has a few bubbles in it. But, I'k ok with that and hopefully equally it settles, those will work themselves out or I can help them a little bit.

But, I have to say I love it!
It sits on my desk next to my calculator and just sparkles at me.

At present, I did all the measuring and test cutting, but you don't take to!

Feel free to grab this free cut file of the Cameo 4 encompass I created Hither.

Now, what if you do non have a Cameo iv withal or don't programme to buy ane? Well, y'all can still utilize some pretty Sparkleberry Ink vinyl to add a little color to your Cameo if you would like, no thing what model y'all have.

I've updated and created a total cover file for the Cameo three model as well.

I did cut without a mat when creating this ane since information technology is a larger expanse, all the same, you could use a 12″ 10 24″ cutting mat likewise and arrange the pieces on it. Only proceed in mind that if y'all pattern has a management to it, you want to keep the same consistency in how the pattern goes beyond the cuts.

I'd also suggest going slow and taking your fourth dimension when applying, specially on the lid. It is a large surface to go lined upwardly. In this cut file, the pieces are designed slightly smaller than the actual panel sizes, so at that place is a lilliputian bit of auto colour showing through to pause up the pattern.

For more details on cut without a mat, bank check out this mail Here.

I did not cover the inside of the Cameo three lid as information technology has some instructions inside. If you lot would choose to practice so, I would recommend measuring the inside and then drawing a rectangle that same size. I used cardstock and cutting out a piece that was the same length elevation to lesser and held information technology up to the machine to brand sure information technology was the correct size, before I committed a full sheet of adhesive vinyl.

Or if yous have other model machines, take hold of this Silhouette Cameo Cover Template from the Silhouette Design Shop, some of your favorite Sparkleberry Ink vinyl & maybe some Glitter Laminate Overlay too and get to cut.
*Notation this file contains cuts for the Cameo ane panels, Cameo two panels, and Cameo 3 chapeau.
