The video for this is the original version. Substitute deep violet for phthalo blue & quinacridone magenta for light bluish violet. Exercise the mars black and titanium white the aforementioned.
Stride By Step Directions
Step 1
Describe your horizon line 1/three up the canvas. Since I'thousand doing this on a 12″ x xvi″ canvas, I drew my line 4″ upwardly. Use a ruler to make the line as horizontal every bit possible.
Pace 2
Kickoff at the top with you three/iv″ apartment brush and mars black.
Paint left and right strokes starting horizontal but as you work your way down a flake, go in a curved motion across the sky.
And then blend in Phthalo blue with the black and get a few more than inches down.Rinse off your brush and add togethercalorie-free blueish violet.
Go on your mode downwardly to well-nigh the horizon line.
As you lot approach the horizon line, add together titanium white to your brush without rinsing it.
Blend the titanium white in with the light bluish violet. Yous should have a gradation of black to phthalo blueish to light blue violet to a white/light blue violet.
The bottom area above the horizon line should be bright and the top of the sky should be nice and dark.
Step iii
Brand sure your sky is dry out. Utilise a piece of white chalk to draw your horizon line.
Information technology'south helpful to look at images of skylines for this step and observe the shapes. I drew the infinite needle with the chalk equally well.
If you need to erase chalk, but use a make clean wet pigment brush and/or a soft damp cloth.
Stride iv
To pigment the skyline in, employ mars black and a small castor that yous experience nearly comfortable with because the buildings are a pocket-size area to paint in.
I used a combo of my #4 bright and my #4 circular. I too used a 10/0 liner (which is a tiny brush) to fill in even smaller areas like the indicate on the space needle.
Note, I went outside & within the lines a lot with the chalk drawing. This can be fixed later past erasing the chalk with a wet brush in one case the paint is dry.
Step v
Paint the water below the buildings. This time go in the opposite equally the sky.
Use your three/4″ flat castor. Start with calorie-free blue violet. Then blend in Phthalo blue gradually and piece of work your way to the bottom of the canvas.
Go in a sort of reverse curve direction that you did with the heaven. On the very lesser of the painting, blend in mars black.
Step 6
Use a #4 round castor and double load information technology in titanium white and primary xanthous (or mix the two together on your palette).
This is necessary to get the yellow to testify up prissy and bright against the black.
Paint the windows using piddling dots of brush marks hither and there in columns on all the buildings.
To do the space needle, I added little dots of lines in rows at the pinnacle and some lines outlining the vertical columns that form its shape.
Step seven
To do the reflection, use your #12 bright castor and mars black. Paint piffling horizontal strokes under each edifice.
Guess how long each reflection would be under the building simply go on it simple.
Then expect for that black to dry out a scrap. Utilize your #four round brush to do the calorie-free reflections.
Paint a very vertical wavy line of the same yellow/white mix you used for the windows. I besides added a few dots here and there along the horizon line where the yellow reflections are.
Pace eight
To paint the fireworks, I used phthalo blue and titanium white for the blue fireworks, cadmium red medium and titanium white for the cherry fireworks and just titanium white for the white fireworks.
You can utilize either a round castor or the tip of one of your flat brushes for this.
I really alternated between the #12 bright and the #iv circular.
Basically you double load the brush in the color and titanium white.
Y'all get-go in the middle and drag the stroke out then that information technology fades and dries out to a point.
Practise a few layers to make the firework look "fuller".
And so if you desire you tin can pigment the fireworks reflection in the water. For some reason I forgot to do this! Simply pigment colored squiggly lines similar to the lines yous did for the xanthous lights.
Erase your chalk lines if they notwithstanding show through. And you lot are finished!!
